Story

My name is Sama Khader, and I am a second-year medical student at Al-Azhar University in Gaza. During the war, I lost my home and my car, and two full years of my life were taken from me. In the middle of all that, I had to study for my Tawjihi (high school final exams) — with shelling happening around me, moving between shelters, struggling for electricity and internet just to open a book or watch a lesson. I studied however I could, whenever I could, holding on to the hope that this was my only way forward. Despite everything, I scored 97.7% in the Scientific stream.
I have witnessed how many lives were lost during the war simply because there weren’t enough doctors to help — people who could have been saved if medical care had reached them in time. This is what pushed me to hold on to my dream of becoming a doctor, no matter how hard the circumstances became.
I want to specialize in psychiatry and pediatrics, so I can help children heal — both physically and emotionally — in a place that needs doctors more than ever. I completed my first year of medical school at Al-Azhar University in Gaza, determined to be part of the solution to the shortage that cost so many people their lives.
Right now, I owe 2,812 Jordanian Dinars (approximately $4,000) in accumulated university tuition fees, and without support, I risk being unable to continue my studies.
I have volunteered providing psychosocial support to children through community organizations, and I hold certifications in clinical research (GCP), medical terminology, and clinical skills such as blood drawing and cannula insertion.
Your donation — big or small — helps keep this dream alive, and helps make sure Gaza has one more doctor when it needs them most.
