Jifan Medical Scholarship
Short Story
Support Ibrahim… the doctor of tomorrow from Gaza.
Story
Ibrahim Mahmoud Ghabn, a medical student at the Islamic University of Gaza.
Like any medical student in the world, I carry one dream… to graduate and become a doctor—not just in title, but in purpose; a humanitarian mission through which I seek to relieve people’s pain and help them.
I graduated from high school with an excellent average, with honors, and the dream of studying medicine has been with me from the very beginning. I began my academic journey in 2021 as a medical student. My father was the main provider for our family, supporting me by covering part of my tuition fees, along with some external assistance.
However, with the outbreak of the war on the Gaza Strip, everything changed…
A harsh war that took the lives of and led to the capture of many medical staff and healthcare workers, and destroyed hospitals, healthcare facilities, and universities. The shortage became evident in everything, and nothing remained but hope… the hope of future students.
We faced many difficulties, most notably the university tuition fees and the high costs of studying medicine, especially after the loss of income, unemployment, and even the loss of our home, as we are now living in a tent. My father was also captured by the occupation, and I am now the only provider left for my family… I have been, and still am, their only hope to continue this path.
Despite all of this, I did not stop.
I worked diligently during the war at several medical points and volunteered in healthcare centers, striving to be part of alleviating suffering and helping people, despite the limited resources and the harsh conditions.
Today, as the first medical student in my family in Gaza, I extend my hand to you, asking for your support so that I can continue this dream and turn it into reality. With your support, I can make a meaningful impact in my community.
Thank you for everything you provide for me, my family, and my community.
